I’ve been saying goodbye to a lot of people over the past couple of weeks. I am so very, very grateful for the incredible people in my life, and seeing many of them recently has been such a joy and a privilege.
Saying goodbye is very bittersweet. It is lovely to have so many people to say goodbye to. And the time spent with them has been filled with good food, good conversation, good dances, good laughs. And, saying goodbye to friends here just means I’m about to say hello to new friends in a new place. So it is hard to be too sad, even though I will miss my UK friends dearly.
And for those I wasn’t able to meet up with, never fear, there is always the welcome-home round of catch ups to look forward to! I’ll be back before we all know it. Every year seems to go faster than the last and without wanting to wish the next year away, I’m sure it will absolutely fly by!
If you want to feel loved, I recommend leaving the country! It is a wonderful opportunity to spend time with the people you care about and is a great excuse for them to take time to acknowledge what you mean to them and make the effort to spend time with you. Alternatively, don’t wait till you or someone else leaves the country, reach out to someone today – it doesn’t have to be your bestest friend in the whole wide world and it doesn’t really have to have a purpose, and don’t worry about if it is your turn or their turn to get in touch, just reach out and say hi to someone you haven’t had contact with for a while.
