When it comes to countries, it appears I have a type. While I love lots of amazing places, I am particularly fond of tiny countries that are very green and have lots of hills. For coastlines, I seem to be quite all-or-nothing – either landlocked or an island.
Sri Lanka, Rwanda, Nepal. And I love Luxembourg too, though I haven’t spent as much time there as the others.
The mix of tiny country and hills does make for fabulous bus trips. And the train from Kandy to Ella in Sri Lanka is one of the most incredible journeys!
The problem is, that even though they are tiny countries, the hills mean that the surface area is bigger than you might think it is. Which means there’s a lot more of each I’d like to see.

This is Luxembourg near Putscheid, from a cycling holiday I did a lot of years ago.

This is Rwanda from Muhanga from a few years ago when I was there and left part of my heart in that red dust.

This is Sri Lanka from the road between Kandy and Ratnapura. One of my favourite views from that bus journey – it took my breath away every time I did the trip.

And the view from another bus. This is Nepal between Butwal and Pokhara. Photos never do justice to the scale of Nepal.
